Construction Safety Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Construction Safety Engineer to join our team for a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility build project. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction safety within the pharmaceutical or highly regulated industries. You will be responsible for ensuring all construction activities adhere to safety regulations, industry standards, and best practices, with a key focus on maintaining a safe working environment throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safety Planning and Risk Assessment: Develop, implement, and maintain safety management plans tailored to the pharmaceutical manufacturing facility construction. Conduct risk assessments, job hazard analyses, and safety reviews to identify and mitigate potential risks on-site.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with OSHA, local safety regulations, and pharmaceutical industry safety standards. Regularly audit and review site safety practices to ensure adherence to applicable laws and standards.
  • Incident Investigation and Reporting: Lead investigations of any accidents, incidents, or near-misses on the construction site. Analyze root causes, generate detailed reports, and develop corrective and preventive action plans to prevent future occurrences.
  • Training and Education: Provide on-site safety training and induction programs for construction personnel. Develop training materials and conduct toolbox talks and ongoing safety workshops tailored to the project’s specific needs.
  • Safety Audits and Inspections: Conduct regular site safety audits and inspections to identify and rectify potential hazards. Work closely with the construction management team to implement safety improvement measures and maintain documentation for audit purposes.
  • Contractor and Vendor Oversight: Collaborate with contractors and vendors to ensure their safety protocols align with site-specific safety requirements. Monitor subcontractor activities to ensure adherence to safety standards.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Develop and implement emergency response plans for the construction site. Ensure all personnel are familiar with emergency procedures, evacuation plans, and first aid protocols.
  • Continuous Improvement: Continuously monitor and evaluate safety programs, providing recommendations for enhancements or updates as new safety technologies, regulations, or industry best practices emerge.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Management, or a related field. Certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP),
  • Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST), or equivalent are highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in construction safety engineering, preferably within pharmaceutical or similarly regulated industries. Experience with large-scale construction projects and familiarity with cleanroom or specialized facility environments is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA standards, construction safety regulations, and industry best practices. Proficiency in hazard identification, risk assessment, and incident investigation processes.
  • In-depth understanding of safety regulations in construction environments, including OSHA, NFPA, and other industry standards applicable to pharmaceutical manufacturing facility construction.
  • Strong leadership abilities with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Able to work independently and as part of a team, with a focus on collaboration across departments and contractors. High attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with pharmaceutical or healthcare construction projects.
  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and FDA requirements as they relate to construction safety in regulated environments.
  • Experience with project management or construction scheduling.
  • Knowledge of construction safety technology or management systems (e.g., safety software platforms, data-driven safety programs).
