Electrical Engineer

The Electrical Engineer will play a key role in the design, construction, and commissioning phases of a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility. The individual will be responsible for ensuring that all electrical systems meet the stringent requirements of pharmaceutical production environments, including safety, compliance, and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standards. This role involves coordination with multidisciplinary teams, oversight of contractors, and hands-on problem-solving to ensure the successful completion of the project.

Key Responsibilities

  • Electrical Design & Planning:
    • Develop and review detailed electrical designs, specifications, and drawings for the facility, including power distribution, lighting, automation systems, and emergency power.
    • Ensure designs meet local, national, and international electrical codes (e.g., NEC, IEC) and pharmaceutical industry standards.
    • Coordinate with architects, mechanical engineers, and process engineers to integrate electrical systems into overall facility design.
    • Collaborate on the selection and specification of electrical equipment such as transformers, switchgear, panels, and UPS systems.
  • Project Management & Coordination:
    • Act as the primary point of contact for electrical engineering matters during the construction phase.
    • Manage and oversee subcontractors involved in the electrical installation work, ensuring adherence to project timelines and quality standards.
    • Provide technical input during project meetings and ensure alignment with project goals and timelines.
    • Monitor progress of electrical installation work and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
  • Compliance & Safety:
    • Ensure all electrical installations comply with pharmaceutical industry regulations (e.g., FDA, GMP, GEP) and health & safety standards (e.g., OSHA, NFPA).
    • Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for electrical hazards.
    • Ensure proper grounding, bonding, and surge protection is in place for sensitive pharmaceutical equipment.
  • Commissioning & Validation:
    • Lead or assist in the commissioning of electrical systems, including power distribution, HVAC controls, automation, and instrumentation.
    • Perform testing, troubleshooting, and validation of electrical systems to ensure operational readiness for pharmaceutical production.
    • Collaborate with validation teams to ensure compliance with commissioning and qualification (C&Q) requirements, including IQ (Installation Qualification) and OQ (Operational Qualification) protocols.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate records of electrical designs, modifications, and testing results.
    • Prepare detailed reports on electrical system performance, including load studies, energy efficiency analysis, and compliance documentation.
    • Update and manage as-built drawings and electrical system schematics throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Continuous Improvement & Innovation:
    • Identify and recommend improvements to enhance the electrical systems’ reliability, safety, and energy efficiency.
    • Stay up-to-date with advancements in electrical engineering technology and implement best practices in pharmaceutical facility design.
