HVAC Engineer

We are seeking a skilled and experienced HVAC Engineer to lead the design, installation, and validation of HVAC systems for a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility. The HVAC Engineer will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and industry standards, optimizing environmental controls, and ensuring cleanroom conditions essential for pharmaceutical production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and Specification:
    • Develop and review HVAC designs, drawings, and specifications tailored to pharmaceutical cleanroom environments and other controlled spaces (e.g., labs, production areas, storage).
    • Ensure compliance with GMP, FDA, ISO, and other regulatory standards specific to pharmaceutical HVAC systems.
    • Specify HVAC equipment, air filtration systems (HEPA), airflow patterns, temperature, humidity controls, and pressure differentials to maintain sterile environments.
    • Integrate HVAC systems with Building Management Systems (BMS) for real-time monitoring and control.
    • Collaborate with architects, civil engineers, and electrical and mechanical teams to ensure seamless integration of the HVAC system into the overall facility design.
  • Project Management and Coordination:
    • Lead the installation and commissioning of HVAC systems, coordinating with subcontractors and suppliers.
    • Ensure project milestones are met within specified timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
    • Oversee the procurement of materials and equipment, ensuring adherence to project specifications and deadlines.
    • Conduct regular site inspections to assess progress and ensure compliance with safety, design, and regulatory requirements.
    • Manage design changes, resolving technical challenges during installation.
  • Validation and Compliance:
    • Prepare and execute Installation Qualification (IQ), Operational Qualification (OQ), and Performance Qualification (PQ) for HVAC systems, following pharmaceutical validation protocols.
    • Ensure the HVAC system achieves and maintains environmental conditions necessary for cleanroom classifications (ISO 5-8) and product manufacturing requirements.
    • Develop and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for HVAC operation, maintenance, and monitoring.
    • Conduct risk assessments to identify potential deviations and ensure corrective actions are implemented to maintain compliance.
  • Troubleshooting and Optimization:
    • Analyze and resolve HVAC system malfunctions and deviations to ensure minimal downtime and impact on production.
    • Implement continuous improvements to HVAC system performance, energy efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
    • Train maintenance and operations staff on HVAC systems, including troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in HVAC engineering, with at least 3 years in pharmaceutical or biotechnology manufacturing environments.
  • Proven experience with cleanroom HVAC systems and regulatory requirements (GMP, FDA, ISO).
  • Familiarity with pharmaceutical environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, airflow, pressure differentials) and their impact on product quality and safety.
  • Expertise in HVAC system design, including load calculations, ductwork design, and system balancing.
  • Knowledge of BMS, HEPA filtration, air change rates, and cleanroom classifications.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, or similar software for design and drafting.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards such as ASHRAE, ISPE guidelines, and local building codes.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to lead cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with stakeholders and regulatory authorities.
