Process Safety Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Process Safety Engineer to join our team for a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility build project. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in ensuring the safety of pharmaceutical processes, with a focus on risk assessment, hazard analysis, and regulatory compliance. You will be responsible for implementing safety systems and processes that meet industry standards and ensure the safety of personnel, equipment, and the environment during the design and construction phases of the facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process Safety Design and Implementation:
Lead the design and implementation of process safety systems, including evaluating process hazards, conducting risk assessments, and recommending control measures. Ensure safety systems are integrated with new and existing manufacturing processes in the facility.
  • Project Coordination:
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including project managers, process engineers, and automation specialists to ensure that safety aspects are integrated into the overall project design and execution. Ensure the project complies with safety regulations and standards.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure all processes comply with regulatory requirements such as OSHA, EPA, FDA, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and other relevant industry safety standards. Conduct audits and risk assessments to ensure safety systems are implemented correctly and maintain compliance with pharmaceutical industry standards.
  • Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment:
Conduct hazard and operability studies (HAZOP), process hazard analysis (PHA), and Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA) to identify potential safety risks. Implement safety barriers and controls to mitigate identified risks during the facility build project.
  • Safety Systems Testing and Validation:
Develop and oversee the testing and validation of safety systems and equipment. Ensure that safety systems meet all performance and regulatory requirements and conduct root cause analysis for any deviations.
  • Emergency Preparedness and Response:
Develop emergency response plans and procedures specific to the facility. Ensure that all safety equipment, including fire suppression and alarm systems, are correctly installed and tested.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation on all safety systems, processes, and controls. Provide detailed reports and safety analyses to project stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
  • Training and Support:
Conduct safety training sessions for employees and contractors, ensuring that all personnel are aware of safety protocols, emergency procedures, and regulatory compliance requirements. Develop safety training materials and guidelines.
  • Continuous Improvement:
Identify and implement improvements in process safety systems and procedures. Stay updated on the latest developments in process safety regulations, methodologies, and technologies to enhance the safety of the pharmaceutical manufacturing facility.
