Piping Engineer

The Piping Engineer will play a critical role in the design, installation, and commissioning of piping systems in a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility. This individual will ensure that the piping systems adhere to project requirements, regulatory standards (e.g., GMP, FDA, ASME BPE), and industry best practices. The role involves coordination with cross-functional teams, including process, mechanical, and construction engineering teams, to ensure timely and successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and Engineering:
    • Develop detailed piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) for various process systems (e.g., clean utilities, water systems, chemical transfer).
    • Create piping layouts and isometric drawings using CAD/CAE software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, PDMS).
    • Specify piping materials (stainless steel, polymers, etc.) in line with pharmaceutical standards (ASME BPE, ASTM, etc.).
    • Review vendor drawings and specifications for compliance with project requirements.
  • Technical Coordination and Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with process engineers to ensure piping systems align with process flows and equipment layouts.
    • Work closely with construction teams and contractors to ensure proper installation of piping systems.
    • Provide technical support and guidance to contractors during installation, ensuring that construction follows design specifications.
  • Compliance and Standards:
    • Ensure compliance with pharmaceutical industry standards such as cGMP, ASME BPE, FDA, and local building codes.
    • Conduct inspections to verify that piping systems meet health, safety, and environmental standards.
    • Ensure all documentation, including validation and qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ), is completed in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Project Management Support:
    • Assist in project planning and scheduling of piping-related activities.
    • Support procurement activities, including vendor selection and material requisition.
    • Monitor project progress and provide updates on key milestones related to piping systems.
    • Coordinate and manage design changes, ensuring minimal disruption to project timelines.
  • Testing and Commissioning:
    • Oversee hydrostatic and pneumatic testing of piping systems to verify integrity and performance.
    • Participate in the commissioning, qualification, and validation (CQV) process for piping systems, ensuring they meet required operational specifications.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise during testing and commissioning phases.
  • Documentation:
    • Prepare and maintain project documentation including design specifications, installation guidelines, and testing protocols.
    • Ensure accurate as-built drawings and documentation for handover to the facility operations team.
